    Women's addiction recovery group

Women for Sobriety (WFS) is a non-profitsecularaddiction recovery group for women with addiction problems. WFS was created by sociologistJean Kirkpatrick in 1976 as an alternative to twelve-step addiction recovery groups like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). The methods of what is now the "New Life" program of Women for Sobriety empowered Kirkpatrick to quit drinking. She has been recognized in this country and abroad for her work in alcoholism. In 1978, she received the Raymond Haupert Humanitarian Award from Moravian College.

Perhaps the secret to Kirkpatrick’s success is that she can relate so personally to the stories of the women who come to her for help.

Her own worst moment came when she returned home from the hospital after a suicide attempt to find she had broken every stick of wooden furniture in the house.
