Jack Shepherd (born 29 October 1940) is an English actor, playwright, and theatre director. He is known for his television roles, most notably the title role in Trevor Griffiths' series about a young Labour MP, Bill Brand (1976), and the detective drama Wycliffe (1993–1998). His film appearances include All Neat in Black Stockings (1969), Wonderland (1999) and The Golden Compass (2007). He won the 1983 Olivier Award for Best Actor in a New Play for the original production of Glengarry Glen Ross.[1] He was also nominated for the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor in 1977.[2]
Biography

[edit]Shepherd attended Roundhay School in Leeds and then studied fine art at Kings College, Newcastle University. During his time in Newcastle he was an amateur actor with the People's Theatre. After gaining a BA he went on to study acting, first at the Central School of Speech and Drama and then as a student founder of the Drama Centre London.[citation needed] He was a talented musician also, playing in a jazz ensemble with fellow drama student, Jon Lord, later of Deep Purple and White

Jack Peter Shepherd (born 14 January 1988)[1] is an English actor. He is known for portraying the role of David Platt on the ITV soap opera Coronation Street since 2000. For his portrayal of David, he has won various awards, including the British Soap Award for Villain of the Year in 2008 and Best Actor in 2018.
Career
[edit]Before taking on the role of David, Shepherd had appeared in episodes of ITV's Where the Heart Is and BBC show Clocking Off, in which he starred with his future Coronation Street screen sister Tina O'Brien.[2]
Shepherd has taken time out of Coronation Street to do theatre work, including the role of Riff in a production of West Side Story as part of Stage 84 The Yorkshire School of Performing Arts.[3] He has also appeared in Oliver! at Bradford's Alhambra theatre.[4]
In 2008, Shepherd appeared in Ghosthunting with Coronation Street on the Isle of Man.[5]
Shepherd uses his middle initial in his stage name as there is already a well-known British actor named Jack Shepherd.[6]
He is also a contributor to the topical show Grouchy Young Men, a spin-off of the show Grumpy Old
