Partha Chatterjee (born October 6, 1952) is an Indian politician who is currently imprisoned. He was previously the Minister of Commerce and Industries and the Education Minister of the Government of West Bengal. He was a member of the Trinamool Congress.
He also served as the Secretary General of the All India Trinamool Congress. When enormous stacks of cash were seized at the house of one of his personal assistants in 2022, he was detained by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the School Service Commission (SSC) scam in West Bengal. He was later fired from the cabinet and suspended from AITC.
Early Life
Chatterjee was born in Calcutta. He attended Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur, while some former Mission students stated he was barely there for a year before being handed a transfer certificate. He earned his MBA from IISWBM after studying economics at Asutosh College.
Political Career
Andrew Yule hired Chatterjee as an HR professional. He was elected as an MLA from Behala Paschim in 2001 and re-elected from the same seat in 2006. He won by a margin of 59,021 votes in 2011. From 2006 to 2011, he was the Opposition Leader in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

Partha Chatterjee (born 6 October 1952) is an Indian politician. He earlier served as the Minister of Commerce and Industries and formerly served as the Education Minister of Government of West Bengal.[3] He represented the Trinamool Congress. He also held the political office of Secretary General of the TMC. In 2022, he was suspended indefinitely from the party following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate.
Early life
