THE INDIAN TO HIS LOVE The island dreams under the dawn And great boughs drop tranquillity; The peahens dance on a smooth lawn, A parrot sways upon a tree, Raging at his own image in the enamelled sea. Here we will moor our lonely ship And wander ever with woven hands, Murmuring softly lip to lip, Along the grass, along the sands, Murmuring how far away are the unquiet lands: How we alone of mortals are Hid under quiet boughs apart, While our love grows an Indian star, A meteor of the burning heart, One with the tide that gleams, the wings that gleam and dart, The heavy boughs, the burnished dove That moans and sighs a hundred days: How when we die our shades will rove, When eve has hushed the feathered ways, With vapoury footsole by the water's drowsy blaze. The Indian to His Love as a poem is similar to that one already titled as The Indian Upon God and both the poems are similar in style and penetration barring the thematic variation as because the latter is about how do the Indians see God while the former is all about Indian love-view. What is love? How is it the feeling and emotion of it? How do the Indians take to love? ‘Amar-prem, nischal prem’, he talks it about, the sacred heart in which dwells it God, internal bonding

પન્નાલાલ પટેલ નવલકથાકાર, વાર્તાકાર હતા. તેમનો જન્મ રાજસ્થાન રાજ્યમાં આવેલા ડુંગરપુર જિલ્લાના માંડલી ગામમાં થયો હતો. તેઓ ઇડરની સર પ્રતાપ હાઇ સ્કૂલમાં માત્ર ચોથા ધોરણ સુધી જ અભ્યાસ કરી શક્યા. થોડો સમય માટે તેમણે ડુંગરપુરમાં દારુના ભઠ્ઠા પર મેનેજર તરીકે નોકરી કરી હતી.૧૯૩૬માં અમદાવાદમાં મળેલ ગુજરાતી સાહિત્ય પરિષદના અધિવેશનમાં ઈડર શાળાના સહાધ્યાયી ઉમાશંકર જોષી સાથે તેમનો અચાનક સંપર્ક થયો અને તેમના પ્રોત્સાહનથી તેમણે સાહિત્યસર્જનનો પ્રારંભ કર્યો. તેમણે તેમની પ્રથમ ટૂંકી વાર્તા શેઠની શ્રદ્ધા (૧૯૩૬) લખી. પછીથી, તેમની વાર્તાઓ ઘણાં ગુજરાતી સામયિકોમાં પ્રગટ થઇ.૧૯૪૦માં, તેમની પ્રથમ નવલકથા વળામણાં પ્રગટ થઇ. ૧૯૭૧માં તેમણે અમદાવાદમાં તેમના બે પુત્રોની સાથે સાધના પ્રકાશન કંપનીની શરુઆત કરી. પાછલા વર્ષોમાં તેમણે મુખ્યત્વે હિંદુ ધાર્મિક વાર્તાઓ અને મહાકાવ્યો પર આધારિત નવલકથાઓ લખી. ૧૯૭૯માં વડોદરામાં મળેલી ગુજરાતી સાહિત્ય પરિષદના સર્જન વિભાગના તેઓ પ્રમુખ હતા.તેમણે પોતાના સંઘર્ષના દિવસોને 'વાસંતી દિવસો' ગણાવ્યા હતા. તેમની કૃતિ 'કંકુ' પરથી ગુજરાતી ફિલ્મ બની હતી. તેમણે ૬૧ નવલકથાઓ, ૨૬ ટૂંકી વાર્તાના સંગ્રહો અને અન્ય ઘણું સર્જન કર્યું હતું. તેમનું મોટાભાગનું લખાણ ઉત્તર ગુજરાતના સાબરકાંઠા જિલ્લાની સ્થાનિક બોલીમાં લખાયેલું છે.૧૯૫૦માં તેમને રણજિતરામ સુવર્ણચંદ્રક એનાયત કરવામાં આવ્યો. ૧૯૮૫માં તેમની રચના માનવીની ભવાઈ માટ
