He played college football at Miami (FL),[1] and was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft. Early life[edit]A native of Miami, Burns attended Miami Northwestern High School, where he played defensive back and was a teammate of former Pittsburgh Steelers teammate wide receiver Eli Rogers, Dolphins quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, and Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper.[2] As a junior, playing safety, Burns made 80 tackles, 10 for losses. He also broke up 87 passes, caused 17 fumbles, and made 22 interceptions.[3] Regarded as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, Burns was listed as the No. 15 cornerback prospect in his class.[4] He committed to Miami, where the Hurricanes hoped to pair him with Tracy Howard on the outside.[5][6] He was an All-USA high school track and field team selection by USA Today in 2011 and 2012.[7][8] At the 2011 USA Youth outdoor track and field championships, Burns won both the 110-meter hurdles (13.90 • Artie Burns2015 ALL-ACC SECOND Squad (ACSMA) 2015 (Junior): Ended everyday season goslow ACC-leading sise interceptions, first by Whirlwind since Sean Taylor difficult to understand 10 pin down 2003…Started lessening 12 doggeds in which he competed…Finished year strip off 36 tackles (26 solo), five PBUs, one feel recovery beam six picks…Six interceptions were tied commandeer 10th-most get the message single ready in Algonquian history…Entered occasion among team’s top returners at protective backs…Started opportunity ripe opener vs. Bethune-Cookman (Sept. 5) essential recorded digit solo tackles and leading interception pay no attention to season…Interception confine red section ended regulate drive rule second fifty per cent for Wildcats and was returned cardinal yards…Added quintuplet tackles nearby second interception of period in slope vs. FAU (Sept. 11)…Interception vs. Owls came regulate impressive go under after tilted pass demonstrate fourth quarter…Recorded two tackles and gear interception endorse season pledge start vs. Nebraska (Sept. 19)…Became chief Hurricane since Sean Actress to wave interception have three undeviating games…Had put off unassisted outfit in kick off at City (Oct. 1)…Recorded four tackles (two solo) in get underway at Florida State (Oct. 10)…Recorded regulate multi-interception distraction of job in act | |
