    PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

    2016

    In his first full season with the Black-and-Red, Saborío scored six goals in 19 appearances (five goals coming off the bench). The 34-year-old moved past Juan Pablo Angel to become the 19th all-time leading MLS scorer with his 73rd goal coming in the 4-2 loss against Orlando City SC on October 23.  Saborío made three appearances for the Costa Rican National Team, including one as a substitute in the 4-0 defeat to the United States Men’s National Team in the 2016 Copa América Centenario.  

     

     

    2015

    Saborío joined D.C. United in the middle of the 2015 season and added a highly- coveted “number nine” style of play to the Black-and-Red offense. The Costa Rican scored in his United debut vs. Philadelphia on July 26 and at Yankee Stadium in D.C.’s first-ever match against NYCFC. “Sabo” also scored the game-winner against New York City FC in stoppage time that clinched a playoff berth for the Black-and-Red for the second consecutive year.

     

    2014

    Saborío had an up and down year, starting off the season strong with six goals and two assists in the first 10 matches before departing to join the Costa Rican National Team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. During training camp, he broke
